This is of my favorite Arabian mare, Rasha. Her sire was Rashad ibn Naseer, an Egyptian and her dam Crabbetbred. Although registered purebred, I bought rasha for $400 as a nine-year-old. I never had a lot of money for horses and always got cheap ones. There's usually a reason they're cheap. Rasha had frightened previous owners with balking, jibbing, prancing and uncontrolable head shaking, a miserable ride, but she always came to see me in the paddock when the other horses kept eating. Very intelligent and courageous, she resented bad riders. Despite being a coward myself, I managed to gain her cooperation and she turned out to be a wonderful, bombproof riding horse. She seemed to prefer my company to that of other horses and I prefered her company to that of some people! When she volunteerily arched her neck and pranced, I felt like we were leading a parade.
The painting isn't for sale, but prints are.

These Arabian mares belonged to a lady in Salisbury who bred fine Arabians for years. She usually had a job on the side and always rented farms. Not many people make a living breeding horses. It's a labor of love. Funny, people think you're rich if you own horses. Sometimes horses are why some people aren't rich.
